DCNS brings together on its Cherbourg Technical Testing and Benchmarking Centre (CETEC) unique skills in material behavior assessment and equipment qualification, know-how that is deployed in several fields some of which have worldwide influence: corrosion, pressure, acoustics
CETEC is the only test centre to offer a range of tests performed in natural sea water (taken from the Cherbourg harbour and constantly renewed). This specialty enables the centre to study corrosion phenomena by reproducing service conditions at sea for any type of part, including large size parts thanks to a 150 cubic meter pool.
With its expertise associated with top flight equipment, CETEC supplies behavioral forecasts and proposes new solutions.
The largest hyperbaric chamber in Europe
With 6 chambers, one of which measuring 83 cubic meters able to reach a pressure of 200 bar, CETEC performs external pressure tests (coupled with stress measurements) for DCNS but also for external customers (mini-submarines, submerged cables etc.).
Acoustic discretion and submarines go hand in hand. Backed by developments achieved in this field, CETEC provides its expertise in acoustic measurement and equipment optimization.
In addition to these three major areas of competency, CETEC conducts welding techniques researches. It also disposes of hydraulic and mechanical testing resources and a chemistry laboratory.
