Back in the day, a footballer’s post-playing career options were very clear. You could either spend your life on the golf course or run a pub. That was about it.
These days it seems as though an attempt at punditry isn’t far from the top of an ex-pro’s list of potential career options, but the ex-Spain star Jose Mari decided to go a different way. A VERY different way.
The former forward won four caps for his country and was a silver medallist at the 2000 Olympics, while club-wise he also enjoyed spells at Sevilla, Atletico Madrid , AC Milan and Villarreal. He then ended his career at Andalusian club Xerez in 2013.

And since then, he’s been rather busy.
The 38-year-old has become a hit on Instagram after posting pictures of his new life as a body-builder, while he was also recently snapped catching up with the former Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina – with whom he played at Villarreal for two years.

Posting the type of images which make you want to reconsider that donut you’ve just been eyeing up, Jose Mari’s Instagram account has quickly attracted almost 6,000 followers, and that is sure to go up and up.
In one post he wrote about his impressive abs, saying “little by little, they seem to come back.”
Seems like they’re here to stay, too.
