Fear not, Vixen. Legends of Tomorrow has not forgotten you.
Those waiting for Mari McCabe (Megalyn Echnikunwoke) to bring the forces of nature to the time travel series now have a reason to hold out hope. As Mari/Vixen’s sister, Kuasa (Tracy Ifeachor), hops into the Legends‘ fray, executive producer Marc Guggenheim is still plotting Mari’s jump from animation to the temporal zone.
For Echnikunwoke, the stars just didn’t align when Legends of Tomorrow came calling last year. Star of CW Seed’s animated Vixen, the actress was originally cast based on both her voice acting and screen acting, a prescient move by the Arrowverse that would – and has – allow Mari McCabe to appear in the live action lineup. When it came time for Mari to transition to the Waverider, however, Echnikunwoke had already committed to another project.
So, bouncing back from that setback, Legends created Amaya, the Vixen of WWII and Mari’s grandmother. With the Justice Society of America member in the mix, the series will delve even deeper into that complicated web of familial ties when Kuasa returns from beyond the veil to antagonize Sara’s (Caity Lotz) team in Legends of Tomorrow season 3.
As the only person who has interacted with Amaya, Mari, and Kuasa, Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh) will provide vital insight into the world of the Anansi Totem bearers. Perhaps he will even become a link that draws Mari away from Detroit. After all, it will be Ray’s memories of Kuasa that ultimately inform Amaya’s understanding of her rogue granddaughter.
In the meantime, catch Mari on Freedom Fighters: The Ray when the animated series hits the CW Seed in the near future.
Are you looking forward to Mari’s potential Legends debut? How will she interact with Amaya? Sound off in the comments!
