Serve as a principal contact responsible for coordination of the Port of Houston Partners in Maritime Education which includes but is not limited to Texas Southern University, Texas A & M University at Galveston, Houston Community College and San Jacinto College; Galena Park, Deer Park, La Porte, Pasadena and other area ISD’s, and as well as other maritime industry leaders.
The primary focus of the program is to encourage area students to pursue career opportunities in the maritime transportation or affiliated fields including logistics/freight, security and environment. The program acts as a conduit from public school through college for bringing young people into a broad array of maritime careers and serves to inform area students about and educate them for employment opportunities in the maritime industry.

Work with various educator and industry leaders to develop and implement varied and diverse curriculum, dual credit course opportunities, internships, field trips, and college scholarship opportunities as well as the high school and secondary course content and degree programs by interacting extensively with public and private sector maritime stakeholders.
Participate and oversee the Port of Houston Partners in Maritime Speakers Bureau and assist in identifying, coordinating, and scheduling appropriate industry experts to present at partnering schools.
Compile and maintain a comprehensive resource list and database of academia and industry related leaders and organizations and keep current records of all maritime related activities.
In coordination with the PHA Legal department will be responsible for submitting application for the non-profit status under the Texas Business Organizations Code and for keeping the necessary documents current.
Responsible for coordination and documentation for committee meetings.
Plan and implement special events for students; represent PHA at educational forums and events including parent-student forums at area high schools.
Work with PHA grant writer and outside organizations to pursue funding opportunities for the continuation and growth of the Maritime Academy programs and cultivate relationships with potential sponsors.
Act as primary contact for projects with the Sea Scout program and assist to coordinate activities with partnering schools.
Track effectiveness and efficiency of program.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must have extensive knowledge of maritime industry and course curriculum development experience.
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must be capable of communicating with staff, consultants and the general public in a professional manner.
Must be capable of working independently without extensive direction or supervision in managing aspects of a project.
Must possess and demonstrate personal initiative, be detailed oriented and technically competent.
Must have the ability to plan and direct several activities concurrently and meet a variety of deadlines.
Must have consensus building skills and the ability to work as a team player.
Must be proficient with MS Office Professional XP and MS Office Access.
Must be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card within thirty (30) days of employment.
Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field.
Five (5) years’ of community, maritime, and/or logistics experience, preferred.
Teaching/Academia experience a plus.
