In early October ESPS Rayo visited the Seychelles to meet with key leaders and Security Forces.
During the port visit, Rayo’s crew welcomed onboard the Seychelles President, Mr Danny Faure, members of the Seychelles Government and key European leaders in the region, for important dialogue on the topic of maritime security.
The EU Ambassador to the Seychelles, Her Excellency Mrs Marjaana Sall, hosted Seychellois leadership, EU Naval Force personnel and Rayo’s Commanding Officer to a reception at Le Meridien Fisherman’s Cove to celebrate 40 years of partnership between the European Union and the Republic of Seychelles. The occasion also marked the 60 years’ anniversary of the Treaties of Rome, for which the President and Distinguished guests were in attendance.
Sailors from the Rayo also conducted local interaction with the Seychellois Maritime Forces, including the Coast Guard, Air Force and the Marine Police Unit. Together the crew of Rayo led discussions and practical demonstrations on Boarding Operations, Evidence Gathering and Operations at sea. The training focussed on piracy but had wider applicability for the daily working routine of the Seychellois forces, namely in areas such as drugs and weapons smuggling.
Also on the same evening, there was an opportunity to celebrate Spanish National Day a few days early. This event was a great success enjoyed by all onboard, with compliments passed to Rayo’s Commanding Officer.
ESPS Rayo’s port visit to the Seychelles was an ideal to opportunity to strengthen relations across the maritime community in the region.
