ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) – The Naval Academy and Naval Support Activity Annapolis experienced minor damage from the Aug. 23 earthquake. Repairs are being made to all impacted areas. Midshipman routine and the overall Naval Academy mission are not affected.
The following is a summary of damage found:
Superficial cracks on the exterior of 8th wing of Bancroft Hall, the midshipmen’s dormitory. Minor paint chip damage was found in Memorial Hall.
In Alumni Hall, air conditioning is temporarily unavailable. Assessors also reported cosmetic cracks in the east side granite.
In MacDonough Hall, on the Cooper Road side, inspectors found large cracks with brick falling from the arch in the weight room. Consequently, the third floor of MacDonough Hall has been closed until repairs are completed.

At the Robert Crown Sailing Center, the sprinkler system has shifted and ceiling tiles have been damaged. The first floor mechanical room has equipment shifted from the foundation.
There were some structural issues initially reported at the Commissary and Navy Exchange. However, after full assessment, the building was found to be structurally sound and both have reopened.
The Child Daycare Center at Naval Station Annapolis is fully functioning.
At the time of the earthquake, the Naval Academy temporarily evacuated buildings, but classes resumed shortly thereafter. There were no injuries.
